Wishlist XP
This summer has been a gold mine for indie gaming. So many releases are dropping, and they just won’t quit. I’m struggling to even play them, let alone review them or share them with you. And this next week, we have an insane amount of releases. Just between August 14-16th, we have Desvelado, ODDADA, Arco, and Castaway. 👀 You can see the list of all the games releasing in August on my radar by heading to last week's Friday Follow-Up/Monthly Recap post below.
Today we will spotlight—what is sort of a theme for this Friday’s post—a Zelda-like game called Castaway, made by Canari Games of Lunark fame.
In Castaway you battle enemies, collect weapons, and fight bosses to save your dog. It’s a short game from what the creator Johan has shared with 3 main dungeons. Once you complete the main story you unlock a “Survivor Mode” that has a 50-floor “Death Tower”. It sounds like the game is setup to pull you in and keep you coming back with replay ability. Castaway releases on August 16th for all major consoles and PC.

Crowdfunding Checkpoint
I was on a hunt for Zelda-likes because I’m a huge fan of the franchise and stumbled upon a developer streaming their work on a game for a Game Jam. This developer, Bumbleborn, was working on a game that mashed up the gameplay of Stardew Valley with the look of Zelda: Link's Awakening.
Growing up, Link’s Awakening was always at my side. From the second I was gifted my neon green Game Boy Color, it was rare that anything other than that game was in it, well, other than binging Pokémon Blue. So, you can understand my excitement to see this game. He was so polite and answered the many questions I threw at him, and when it released, it was so much fun to play. You can try it out now on Itch. The best part is that he plans to make it into a full-fledged game with a campaign you can pre-save on Kickstarter.
In the meantime, you can check out the trailer for his current project Echo: Comet Coast. It’s his main focus and will release exclusively on Playdate. You can watch his devlogs on YouTube and follow him on Twitter with insights into the development of the game. It’s releasing on September 10th of this year.

Quest Vibes
From the moment you finish the Caravan SandWitch demo, you are shown the trailer with a song by Antynomy. It is a truly hauntingly beautiful melody I fell in love with. I could not wait to get it on streaming sites, and this week Antynomy finally released it! It’s been on repeat since it was launched. Enjoy!
