My favorite demo from Steam Next Fest was Glitch Dungeon Crystal. I’ve seen a few development posts, and the style really spoke to me. The pixelated, glitch-filled world, centered around a grandma cleaning up a dirty basement full of glitches, is one of the most unique games to cross my screen since Animal Well. It feels like both games share an oddity and complex, secretive world. Try out the demo now!

This one was sent to me by Pirate PR, honestly one of the best PR companies around for creators and developers. You should follow their newsletter! 10 Dead Doves was a Kickstarter project that was backed by 200% last year and is now releasing at the tail end of 2024. The developers play the leads in the game and have a wonderfully witty banter that eases tension in this fixed-perspective horror game. The graphics enhance the impressive visuals showcased in the trailer.

Orbo’s Exodus is one of the wildest and funniest platformers I’ve played this year. It really fits a wild Dreamcast aesthetic, almost like the quirky offspring of Sonic Adventure. Dash rolling, using your helmet as a screwdriver, and many of the other mechanics, once mastered, make for a hilariously fun game that runs beautifully.
